The Division
- After Alexanders death his generals all wanted to take over the position because they wanted specific parts of the empire
- Eventually the empire divided into 3 by 275 B.C.E.
- The land was claimed by 3 of his generals, Antigonus took Greece and Macedon, Ptolemy took Egypt, Seleucus took the portion which used to be the Achaemenid empire which is from Bactria to Anatolia
- These 3 empires were called the Hellenistic Empires
- The 3 empires lasted until 31 B.C.E when Romans took over the Ptomelic Dynasty.
The Antigonid Empire
- It was the smallest of the 3 realms
- Continual tension between the Antigonid rulers and Greek cities
- But the cities Athens and Corinth benefited nicely from the volume of trade that went to their ports- Analysis: Although Greece and the Antigonid rulers had tensions there was a lot of trade and some cities benefited.
- The Poleis and Antigonids often had bargains

- The influence of the Greek was large in the Seleucid Empire
- Their were numerous cities that Alexander founded in the former persian empire
- Most were small settlements to serve as fortified sites
